Soap was the first product we made with our goat’s milk here at Stone Creek Farmstead. It takes some practice and finesse, but goats milk soap is absolutely wonderful.
It is always interesting to be at farmer’s markets where people almost always fall into one of two polarized categories: one, they beeline for our booth because they need to restock on goat milk soap, or two, they’ve never even heard of it. It seems that to know goats milk soap is to love it.
We had one customer at a farmer’s market tell us that her skin doesn’t feel dry nearly as fast after the shower when she uses our goats milk soap (verses regular soap). Another one of our regulars buys the lavender/rosemary soap for her baby boy who suffers from eczema. Especially great for dry hands, goats milk soap is such a great first step in the fight to moisturize up here in the mountains. We all need lotion, which, goats milk lotion is absolutely fabulous, but including goats milk soap in your regimen will definitely pay off. And we absolutely love it: here at the farmstead we can’t get enough!
As we have posted about our lotion, goat’s milk is the only substance with the same PH as human skin. Also, goat’s milk is the closest in composition to human milk. So the moisture of the goat’s milk is easily absorbed into our skin, we get the full benefit of using natural, nourishing soap. And our ingredients are simple: goat milk, mineral oil, palm oil, coconut oil, vegetable oil, sodium hydroxide (for soponification) and essential oils. Such simple ingredients for such an amazing soap.
We have updated our goats milk soap making class on the website. We are excited to start the new year teaching new friends how to make this wonderful soap. Making artisanal soap is not easy. We feel that taking a class is hugely beneficial if you would li
ke to start making your own soap. In our classes, you get to meet the goats (including of course the famous Mr. Morgan), and choose your own fragrance to make goat’s milk soap that you get to take home and cure. No two soaps are ever the same, and there is no limit to your creativity. It’s such an interesting process, and the process is definitely worth the reward.
One thing we have been discussing a lot lately here at the farmstead is new innovations to our soap. We always like suggestions and input from customers. If you would like to see a new fragrance or style, please let us know; we will definitely experiment and consider. One thing that we have been discussing is an exfoliation bar. We have gotten quite a few requests for this, and now we are in the process of figuring out which natural exfoliate would be best. The ability to be creative and experiment is one of the funnest aspects of our job.
So if you would like to learn to make this wonderful soap, or try it out for yourself, check out the website and choose a class or your favorite fragrance. We’d love to see you here at the farmstead!
Hope this finds all of you well,
Ashlee
